J Balvin headed to his motherland of Colombia last weekend to celebrate his birthday número 31 surrounded with family and friends. “The family, still celebrating my birthday,” he wrote on social media.
According to his Instagram account, the Colombian star ran into a group of talented street rappers during his after-dinner stroll through the streets of Cartagena and he couldn’t help to join them.
“This is life and happiness,” the “Ginza” performer wrote on the video’s caption. “Sharing the blessing that is music with the people, this time in Cartagena. It’s hard to forget that I went through the same thing. Love on the streets.”
The result? The best “Ginza” remix we’ve heard in a while and 100% Colombian. Check it out in the video below.
But “Ginza’s” success, his birthday, his country’s talent are only a few of the things the award-winning performer has to celebrate.
Last week, Universal Music Publishing Group announced they were extending the singer’s exclusive contract.
“I consider J Balvin one of the greatest global contemporary songwriters/artists in any genre,” UMPG President Evan Lamberg said in a statement. “He will be a force for years to come.”
The birthday boy also recently added “La Voz México Coach” to his resume, where he shares the judging panel with Latino superstars Gloria Trevi, Alejandro Sanz and Los Tigres del Norte.
In the past year, Balvin has collaborated in remixes with international acts such as Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, Maroon 5, French Montana and Nicky Jam.
“Historic moments for the Latin industry,” the urban star expressed on social media after performing “Sorry” next to “The Biebs” in January. “Dream big.”
Coming next for the edgy entertainer is the release of his new single “Bobo,” which is scheduled to premiere on May 13. Stay tuned to see what crazy beats he’ll be dropping in the next couple of days.
