The Gang's taking a star turn tonight. "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia" returns on Wednesday, October 30 for Episode 9 of Season 9 with "The Gang Makes Lethal Weapon 6", when the five owners of Paddy's Pub will be taking over duties from Mel Gibson and Danny Glover to film what they hope to be their masterpiece of derived cinema. A synopsis from the show's site sums things up thusly: "After creative differences over what constitutes tasteful nudity cause Frank to pull his money out of Lethal Weapon 6 during filming, Mac, Dennis, and Charlie screen their rough footage for investors in hopes of raising enough capital to finish the production of their latest masterpiece." Last week's episode, "Flowers for Charlie", took notes from the 1959 story "Flowers for Algernon", in which a janitor undergoes a procedure which boosts his intelligence hugely. The show adapted that story for the Gang's own rat-bashing, paint-huffing goofball of a janitor, Charlie, whose intelligence swelled to such an extent that he found himself unable to relate to his friends or even to the woman for whom he has long lusted - The Waitress, who is suddenly revealed to Charlie as a total bore (and boor) of a woman. It turned out - spoiler alert here, if you haven't seen it yet - that he'd been given a placebo by the Chinese lab worker who pretended to understand Charlie's fake Mandarin. Meanwhile, the rest of the Gang concerned themselves with trying to figure out "Charlie work", though it didn't take too long for them to give up and go get high off gasoline fumes.
Do you like "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia" more than you like yourself? Well, you're not alone, apparently. Kaitlin Olson told Metro Entertainment recently about some of the more outlandish ways that fans of the show express their undying devotion to the creators. "The weirdest thing is people getting our [five] faces tattooed on their bodies," she said. "And it's not just one or two, it's happened, like, a big handful of times. And I am shocked every single time. People will tweet us pictures." She went on to advise viewers against ruining their futures in that way because, "The show is going to end one day. And that body will -- hopefully -- be around for a very long time." If you don't have access to a television tonight, check out "Flowers For Charlie" HERE as it streams live at 10 p.m. on FXX.
