In the midst of many workplace sitcoms on the television scene today, the hit Apple TV+ series 'Mythic Quest' stands out among the rest for its quality writing, stellar cast, and attention to detail.
Co-created by 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia' stars Rob McElhenney, Charlie Day, and writer Megan Ganz, 'Mythic Quest' follows the staff at Mythic Quest Studios, a video game company that developed a massively popular online game of the same name.
The series is led by McElhenney and the Australian actress Charlotte Nicdao, as creative director and creator Ian Grimm and lead engineer Poppy Li, respectively. Together, they clash and collaborate on many expansions to the game and eventually found their own studio together.

Accompanying Ian and Poppy at Mythic Quest Studios are insecure executive producer, David Brittlesbee (played by David Hornsby), his scarily driven assistant, Jo (played by Jessie Ennis), video game testers in a budding romance, Rachel and Dana (played by Ashly Burch and Imani Hakim respectively), sociopathic head of monetization Brad (played by Danny Pudi), and long-suffering HR representative Carol (played by Naomi Ekperigin).
This ensemble makes up the cast of 'Mythic Quest' and their personal dynamics and conflicts while making the game as best as they possibly can make up the crux of the show. However, behind the scenes, many of the actors have taken on extra roles behind the camera. Nicdao, Burch, Pudi, Hakim, and Hornsby have all made their directorial debuts on the show this last third season and this upcoming fourth.

Ekperigin, Hornsby, and Burch have also written episodes for the show. Regarding the challenges that writing and directing for the first time pose, the actors made it clear that in spite of the challenges directing might pose, the supportive work environment helped make the process special.
"I'm directing my friends at the end of the day so it was just great to kind of be thrown in and really thrive in that," Hakim said.

Pudi, who had also directed an episode last season added, "I'm still learning but like she was saying, it's such a supportive group and it's very collaborative and fun...It also just makes you appreciate everyone around you and how good they are at their jobs and all the different people that are making things happen... and you're like 'Oh my gosh, this whole crew is amazing.'"
Nicdao echoed this sentiment when it came to acting stressed in the series, stating "It's never stress. It's always fun to play...We've been making this show now for like six years or something and we've seen a lot of changes...and I fee like it's impossible to work together, especially with wonderful people for that long without becoming very close."
The character, Carol (despite insisting that she is just an HR rep and not a therapist) is who everyone on the show goes to to vent about their problems so I asked them who that person in their life was for them. Some of them said their phone, their dog, their spouses, or who they see in the mirror. To see who said what and who else they said, you can watch the full interviews here.
