Back in 2013, Itatí Cantoral confirmed she was going to portray the late Jenni Rivera in a 10-episode mini-series scheduled to air on Estrella TV, “I am pleased and proud, I feel lucky to embody [Jenni Rivera],” Cantoral told the Associated Press. Unfortunately, the project fell through and the actress never got to play the challenging role.
Last month, the 40-year-old actress shared a couple of photos on Instagram sporting long hair extensions and big hoops, “Who am I?,” she asked her followers on the post’s caption. Fans immediately recognized the look and identified her as “La Diva de la Banda.” Turns out, Itatí’s destiny was to play the late singer on the small screen after all.
The telenovela star will be joining Mexican Regional singer El Dasa in an original scripted series about his life called “El Vato,” which premieres April 10 on NBC Universo. The 10-episode dramedy will narrate the story of how El Dasa went from celebrity chauffeur to award-winning superstar after being discovered by Vicente Fernández in Los Angeles.
Also in the cast are Cristina Rodlo, Gustavo Egelhaaf, Ricardo Polanco, Arcelia Ramírez and Mauricio Martínez. Scroll down to see some of the photos Itatí Cantoral has shared on social media. Do you think she’ll do a good job? Let us know in the comment box below.
