We know Ismael Cala as the host of CALA on CNN En Español. Besides being a renowned news personality, the journalist is also an author. In 2013, he published his first book “El Poder de Escuchar,” or “The Power of Listening” in English, which has become a best seller in Latin America and the US. Now, the book has won first place in the category of “Most Inspiring Book (non-fiction in Spanish)” at the International Latino Book Awards, which took place last weekend in Las Vegas. Cala also received a mention in the Self-Help Book in Spanish category.
Although Cala was in Bogotá fulfilling some commitments and couldn’t travel to Las Vegas to receive his award, he sent a message thanking everyone involved. "This is excellent news that I’d like to dedicate to my readers. It’s now been almost a year since I published “El Poder de Escuchar,” and I’m happy about the great acceptance it has had. I want to thank the organizers of The International Latino Book Awards and in particular, to congratulate all of the winners,” Cala commented when he was informed of the award.
Ismael Cala was born in Santiago de Cuba. He graduated with honors from Universidad de Oriente and at the School of Communication at York University in Toronto. Cala has more than 25 years of experience in media in Cuba, Canada, the US and Mexico. He worked on a number of different radio and television programs in Miami. In 2008 he hosted a news show in Mexico broadcasted by Televisa. He was declared “Iberoamerican Personality of 2013" by the Organization of Iberoamerican Journalists, and in 2014 he won the John Maxwell Leadership Award in the Communications Media category.
