The end of last year was incredibly scandalous for Mexican actress Kate del Castillo, who, as most know, was involved in a scandal with drug lord Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán.
Because of this, speculations ran high about the upcoming Spanish-language Netflix series “Ingobernable” being cancelled. Fortunately, the 20-episode order for the show still stands. Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos called it “a strange turn of events” at the time and insisted the project would move forward.
However, the series will reportedly start filming with a slight change of plans. It was first slated to be shot in Mexico, but the actress doesn’t believe it is safe for her to set foot in the country, where she feels she’ll be prosecuted. Del Castillo already became a U.S. citizen, so she would prefer not to leave the country for now.
The actress’ personal trainer, Alex, spoke to the media and explained they were doing all the training in San Diego, implying that that’s where the filming will take place.
He also said Kate is doing fine while preparing for the exciting role; he says she’s at ease with things and says that “she has nothing to fear because she has nothing to hide.”
“She seems happy, renewed and beautiful, and in excellent spirits,” he continued.
Just like Kate, her character, Irene Urzua, will be a strong woman with a strong personality, conviction and clear ideas. Urzua is capable of “creating a president, leaving a president and killing a president.”
“I absolutely love the role. It’s challenging, it’s risky, it’s compelling. The storyline and the cast are excellent. The kind of content Netflix is synonymous with. I am so happy to be part of the team,” the actress said at the time.
As most know, the ‘El Chapo’ scandal also involved Mr. Sean Penn, who conducted a failed interview with the kingpin for Rolling Stone magazine, only after having allegedly used the actress to get to Guzmán.
