Instagram influencer Sarah Arauco and her boyfriend, Dagner Rojas, died on impact after falling from a 120 ft. building as captured on video. Bolivian police are investigating their deaths as a suspected murder-suicide after reports surfaced that Rojas behaved 'jealously.'
Witnesses in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, captured the gruesome deaths of Arauco and Rojas on Tuesday, April 27.
Distressed onlookers saw Rojas holding Arauco from a window until she slipped. Rojas' alleged suicide was caught on camera just minutes after his girlfriend fell on the same spot.
In a statement to the local press, Special Force Against Violence Director Jose Velasco said that officials are 'processing the scene' and that they 'want nothing more than to do a serious job.'
The district attorney will have more information about the continuing case, according to Velasco.
Prior to their fall from the building, neighbors reported they heard the pair arguing.
Meanwhile, a friend of the couple said that Rojas had acted "jealously" at times, which led to prosecutors believing it to be femicide.
While some reports say that Rojas purportedly “threw” Arauco from the window, investigation over their deaths is still pending on that thought.
The couple even planned on getting married next month.
Between 2009 and 2013, the two appeared on the now-defunct tv program 'Calle 7. Numerous participants competed in group challenges for a chance to win on the show.
The couple was well-known in the region, with Arauco having built a following of 23,900 Instagram followers. She shared her modeling works and fitness journey.
She also shared videos from her TikTok website, which she had more than 200,000 followers on. Arauco was studying law.
In 2014, the World Health Organization (WHO) published a suicide mortality rate of 12,200 per 100,000 people in Bolivia. This is a drop from the previous year's figure of 12,400 per 100,000.
Bolivia's mental health program seeks a constitutional amendment that was introduced in 2014 for persons with mental illnesses. Mental health practice that is properly resourced, supervised and rights-based is also expected in the country. Mental health services should be prioritized to protect patients' autonomy, including those in marginalized and cared-for communities.
