Indian IT Professional, Pregnant Wife Found Dead In New Jersey Home

An Indian techie and his pregnant wife were found dead in their apartment after neighbors noticed their 4-year-old daughter crying alone on the balcony.

The bodies of 32-year-old Balaji Bharat Rudrawar and his 30-year-old pregnant wife, Arati Balaji Rudrawar were found Wednesday, April 7, at their 21 Garden Terrace apartment in the Riverview Gardens complex of North Arlington borough in New Jersey.

"The bodies were found on Wednesday after neighbors saw my granddaughter crying in the balcony and informed the local police who then entered the house," Balaji's father Bharat Rudrawar told the Press Trust of India.

Responding officers forced their way into the apartment and found the victims lying in a pool of blood.

According to the responders, both the deceased had been stabbed several times, apparently with the same knife.

"Investigators were waiting for the medical examiner to determine the cause and circumstances of the death, but confirmed both victims had been stabbed," The Hindu reported.

Local sources reported that the couple engaged in a physical fight during which the husband apparently stabbed his wife in the abdomen.

"The local police there informed me of the tragedy on Thursday. There is no clarity yet on the cause of the death. The U.S. police said they will share findings of the autopsy report," Rudrawar said.

"My daughter-in-law was seven months pregnant,” he said. “We had been to their house and were planning another trip to the U.S. to be with them again," he said.

When asked if he suspected foul play, he said, "I am not aware of any possible motive. They were a happy family and had lovely neighbors."

"I was informed by the U.S. authorities that it will take at least 8 to 10 days for the bodies to reach India after necessary formalities," he said.

"My granddaughter is now with a friend of my son. He had several friends in the local Indian community, which has a 60% population in New Jersey," he said.

The autopsy results are awaited to confirm the exact cause of death. The motive behind the slaying is also unclear at this time.
