Hannah Anderson, the 16-year-old girl at the center of a kidnapping that began in California and ended in Idaho, has been rescued. The man that kidnapped Anderson after murdering her mother and younger brother, James DiMaggio, was shot and killed by the FBI on Saturday.

Authorities in Idaho were alerted to the presence of DiMaggio and Anderson when they were seen hiking through the woods by a group of horseback riders. The people on horseback stopped to chat with the pair as is customary for groups out on the trails.
The riders noticed Anderson and DiMaggio were not properly equipped for hiking in the Idaho backwoods and found it strange Hannah was wearing pajama bottoms. They also noticed how eager DiMaggio was to get away from them.
The riders also noticed the pair was heading in the wrong direction. DiMaggio told one of the riders he and Anderson were heading for a particular spot in the woods, but hurried off in the opposite direction.
After alerting the authorities to what the riders saw in the woods, The FBI sent out an aerial search team, which located Anderson and DiMaggio at a camp site in Alpine Lake. FBI hostage teams surrounded the area eventually killing DiMaggio and rescuing Anderson.
The riders that spotted Anderson gave an account of what they saw to a news conference on Sunday. Mark John, 71, was out horseback riding with his wife and a few others when he stopped to speak with DiMaggio and Anderson.
"Red flags kind of when up," John told the press in Sweet, Idaho. "He might have been an outdoorsman in California, but he wasn't an outdoorsman in Idaho...he didn't fit."
Hannah Anderson was said to be reunited with her father on Sunday. The Detroit Free Press says she appeared to be in good shape. A statement from Hannah Anderson's grandmother said the family was excited to have Hannah home.
