We all know some people get a little stressed out and anxious about travelling, especially when you're flying. We always outline the worst possible scenario: a crying baby, a snoring neighbor, turbulence, and even a smelly bathroom.
As a Dominican, I always prepare for the apocalypse. Starting with the tight-bright-animal print outfits in voluptuous bodies that eventually will end up hurting my eyes, but at least I have fun watching because it says so much of the person. Gigantic earrings, sometimes with so many little pieces that they make noise anytime the person wearing them moves their head are another trend in those flights.
The lack of over-head compartments space is another thing I have to mentally prepare for. We usually have a tendency of bringing two "pregnant" carry-ons, like my mom likes to call them because they look like they're literally two-in-one, plus all the Macy's bags if you're going from NYC to Dominican Republic or a barrel of Brugal (Dominican rum) that you just bought in the duty free, if you're coming to the Big Apple.
Most of the time, you'll hear a "compadre!" that someone shouted from the last row to a person in the middle row, followed by a conversation between two friends that couldn't be seated together. A conversation that we all end up being a part of.
And how can I forget the five or six people who blast their music so loud, it's like you're in a club in the middle of the air. In a good day, they'll have followers, people singing the songs they're playing and sometimes dancing because no flight attendant has ever been able to tame flying Dominicans.
Here in America things are a little bit different.
Last week, a woman in an American Airlines flight from LA to NYC was escorted out after an emergency landing in Kansas City because she just couldn't stop singing "I will always love you," the hit that Whitney Houston made famous as a part of the soundtrack for the movie "The Bodyguard."
If that had been a Dominican flight, some people would've A) told her to shut the F up, B) someone would've chosen another song and sang it louder and more annoyingly just to prove her that she was being disrespectful, or C) people would've joined in the chorus and the whole plane would've ended up singing that song.
Anyways, we posted the video so you can listen to the not-so-fabulous voice of the "I will always love you" singer and you can comment below and let us know if you think the airline made the right choice by escorting her out, and what has been your worst flying experience.
