Tim Lambesis the lead singer for the heavy metal band "As I Lay Dying" was arrested Tuesday for trying to hire an undercover detective to kill his estranged wife.
CBS News says the 32-year-old "As I lay Dying" front man was arrested by the San Diego County Sheriff Department at a "retail business in Oceanside."
Jan Caldwell of the San Diego County Sheriff Department told Reuters that the police had learned through a tip the "As I lay dying" singer was looking for someone to commit the murder.
"The information came to us late last week. We acted quickly on it. I believe that we averted a great tragedy," Caldwell told Reuters.
In a statement released by the Sheriff Department the police say that "Tim Lambesis, lead singer and co-founder for the heavy metal band, "As I Lay Dying" was arrested without incident...Lambesis is charged with solicitation of another to commit murder."
Unknown to Lambesis the hit man he was trying to hire was really an undercover detective. After his arrest the "As I lay Dying" singer was taken to the Encinitas Police station and booked into the Vista Detention Facility.
Yahoo News says Lambesis has a court date and is scheduled to be arraigned either May 8 or May 9.
"As I Lay Dying" is a Grammy nominated Christian metal band. Recently the band was on tour in Asia. The band's official website says they are scheduled to join fellow rock band "Kill Switch Engage" for an upcoming US tour. The "As I lay Dying" website has no information about whether or not they will cancel shows or continue on without Tim Lambesis.
