Queen Elizabeth is a very public figure, but she decided to keep one important detail about her life private — Her Majesty didn’t announce her pregnancy with Prince Charles to the public.

Even though the monarch was always photographed in public, there were no photos of her with her growing baby bump. This is because the Queen decided to stay at home after she reached the fourth-month mark of her pregnancy with her eldest child.

In 1948, Buckingham Palace also released a statement announcing that Her Majesty will not be seen in public after the end of June, but the Palace didn’t explain why this was the case. Little did the public know that it was because Prince Philip’s wife was pregnant.

Prince Charles was born on Nov. 14, 1948, but the Queen didn’t immediately introduce him to the entire world. Her Majesty waited until Dec. 15 to be photographed with her son. The date coincided with Prince Charles’ christening.

According to The Sun, the Queen was in labor for 22 hours before she gave birth at Buckingham Palace via caesarian section. Prince Philip was not in the room when his eldest son was born.

Meanwhile, the Queen proudly showed off her growing baby bump while she was pregnant with Prince Andrew and Prince Edward. The Duke of York was born 10 years after Princess Anne’s birth.

Decades later, other royal moms opted to share their pregnancies with the world soon after they reached the third-month mark. Princess Diana announced both of her pregnancies with Prince William and Prince Harry years ago. A statement was also released after the royal siblings were born.

Shortly after Prince William and Prince Harry’s birth, Princess Diana and Prince Charles introduced them to the entire world. The Wales family was also photographed at Prince William and Prince Harry’s christening.

Prince William’s wife, Kate Middleton, also announced all three of her pregnancies to the public. She was also photographed with her growing baby bump while pregnant with Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
