Prince William and Kate Middleton were asked about Prince Harry's remark about protecting Queen Elizabeth during his recent interview — however, the couple chose not to respond.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge avoided a question from a reporter while leaving the headquarters of the Disaster Emergency Committee in London. "Sir, does the queen need protecting?" instead, William, 39, and Kate, 40, silently made their way to their car as the reporter shouted. Questions regarding this matter emerged shortly after Harry's interview with Today's Hoda Kotb.
The Duke of Sussex had a conversation with Kotb at the 2022 Invictus Games in the Netherlands. Harry talked about his current life in the United States two years after withdrawing from his senior royal role. He also spoke about his recent visit to meet Queen Elizabeth, 96, with wife, Meghan Markle. "Being with her, it was great. It was just so nice to see her," Harry, 37, said during the April 20 interview broadcast. "She's on great form. … I'm just making sure that she's, you know, protected and got the right people around her."
Harry then shared how special his relationship with the Queen was, "We talk about things that she can't talk about with anybody else."
Harry gave a cryptic response when Kotb asked whether he missed his family, Prince William and their father, Prince Charles, in the United Kingdom. Harry went on, "Especially over the last two years, for most people, have they not missed their family?" also adding that he feels more at home on the West Coast. "We've been welcomed with open arms and have such a great community in Santa Barbara, [California]."
Harry and Meghan made a surprise stop at Windsor Castle on their way to the Netherlands. The couple reportedly had a private meeting with the Queen. It was Meghan's first time returning to the U.K. since March 2020. Following Harry's recent trip to London, a source revealed that the brothers did not reunite at the palace. It was said to be "purely coincidental" because William was on a ski trip when Harry was in town.
