Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been following Princess Diana’s footsteps with their charity work. But the royal couple has also been inspired by the Princess of Wales’ way of dealing with her relationships.
During an interview with New! magazine, Princess Diana’s former royal butler, Paul Burrell, said that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have “taken a leaf out” of Princess Diana’s book. The royal couple has decided to freeze out Meghan’s dad, and they haven’t spoken to Thomas Markle Sr. in months.
“I’ve been in similar situations where people said things about Princess Diana, and the way she dealt with it was by freezing them out,” Burrell said. “It looks as if Harry has taken a leaf out of his mother's book. Diana said: ‘Once someone burns the bridge of trust towards you it's very hard to repair it.’”
Burrell went on to say that it really can’t be denied that Prince Harry is the son of Princess Diana. After all, their ways are quite similar to each other.
“Harry is his mother's son and the apple doesn't fall far from the tree,” he said. “She would be furious if someone betrayed her and the only way she could deal with it is to cut them off completely,” he added.
Princess Diana and Meghan have also been compared with each other. Ever since the “Suits” alum joined the royal family, some members of the public claimed that Prince Harry’s wife could very well be the new People’s Princess.
Prince Harry also said that he thinks Princess Diana would get along really well with his wife. During the royal couple’s engagement interview with BBC, Prince Harry also said that his mom would’ve been very excited to know that he has found the person that he wants to spend the rest of his life with.
“Whatever the future of their relationship, one suspects that had she lived long enough to meet Meghan, Diana — beloved for her philanthropy as well as her shy beauty — would have approved,” Vanity Fair journalist Sam Kashner also claimed.
