Kate Middleton has been a member of the royal family for eight years. She is, oftentimes, seen hanging out with Prince William’s relatives in public, particularly at sports events.
However, while Prince Philip, Queen Elizabeth, Prince William, Prince Harry, and the other royals have all been photographed riding their horses, the Duchess of Cambridge hasn’t been photographed riding one. During her conversation with Australian author Kathy Lette, the mom of three revealed that she’s actually allergic to horses.
As such, whenever there are horse matches, she would, oftentimes, be seated inside a small tent away from where everyone is. Since Kate is allergic to horses, she is one of those children who were not trained to ride.
While speaking with Town & Country, royal author Marcia Moody said that Kate Middleton doesn’t ride horses mainly because she wasn’t taught how to ride as a kid. “William and Harry were taught from an early age, but the only time they ride now is for polo—they don’t go off on hacks like the queen always has,” she said.
However, despite Kate’s allergy, the Duchess of Cambridge still makes it a point to watch her husband’s relatives ride their horses from the sidelines. Prince William’s wife has also been photographed riding a horse but only for very short periods of time.
She and her husband rode a horse-drawn carriage during their wedding on Apr. 29, 2011, at Westminster Abbey. She also rode a carriage on her way to Buckingham Palace for the Trooping the Colour earlier this year. However, Kate’s allergies seem to only be triggered when she sits on the horse for very long periods of time.
Meanwhile, Kate Middleton also made headlines this week after it was reported that she managed to fend off Prince William’s admirer from the University of St. Andrews. In 2001, the Duchess of Cambridge pretended to be Prince William’s girlfriend to help ease him out of an uncomfortable situation.
As royal fans now know, her efforts paid off. Shortly after Kate wrapped her arms around Prince William’s waist, the second in line to the throne became interested in dating the future Queen.
