Fusion is a joint news and entertainment cable network launched on Oct. 28 from ABC News and Univision. Fusion targets a younger audience, originally focusing only on the Latin and Hispanic youth but now the network is focusing on a younger demographic of all races and backgrounds. Fusion CEO Isaac Lee announced the network will be targeting the age group 18-34, which is highly targeted by the advertising market. Lee spoke with buzzfeed.com in a phone interview and said the goal of the network is to target a wide demographic.
"If we produce content to appeal only to Latinos, they're not going to like it. We've done two years of research to make sure it's something mainstream." Fusion Network headquarters will be based out of Miami. The network is the product of ABC News and Univision and will have a variety of shows. A morning news show, evening news programing, sports, celebrity entertainment and news show featuring puppets are all part of Fusion's broadcast line up. If you are looking to get Fusion on your TV you have to call your cable provider and request the channel.
If you go to the Fusion website a pop up will ask you to type in your area code to find out if Fusion is available in your area on Time Warner Cable, Verizon FIOS, Direct TV and other local cable providers. If available in your area Fusion TV tells you to call your provider and request the channel. "We want to infuse humor into almost everything we do," said Fusion's vice president Mark Lima to ABC. "We want to be smart and informative and kind of break some of the conventions of traditional television news and information presentation."
You can see how Fusion wants to infuse humor into every aspect of what they do by the music video they created to get the word out about their network. Everyone from the CEO to the marketing director to the reporters working in the newsroom get in on the dancing and singing to promote Fusion. Fusion employees take part in well-choreographed dance number to explain who the network is targeting and why as well as explain the types of shows they will produce. The fun and catchy music video gives viewers an idea of the tone the Fusion network will have.
