Good Friday is right around the corner, and it is the day we celebrate when Jesus was crucified, then on Easter Sunday we celebrate His resurrection. But many might be curious on how Jesus died.
Crucifixion was one of the most tortuous forms of execution. The agony of crucifixion could go on for hours or even days. But at that point, the authorities wanted the condemned person to suffer as much as possible.
The death of the victim depending on age and physical condition would usually be the result of heart failure, suffocation or exhaustion. Jesus was a strong, healthy young man and he was arrested the night he was betrayed. He died on the cross at Calvary within hours. There are two major theories regarding how He died. Either that he simply died of himself or that he was killed by a Roman soldier with a spear.
In the Bible there are scriptures that support the belief that Jesus died unexpectedly of himself. "Therefore doth My Father love Me, because I lay down My life, that I might take it again. No man taketh it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again." (John 10:17-18 KJV)
