The first ever Latin American Fashion Awards marked the very first ceremony that recognized regional icons in 13 categories, with more than 25 countries participating.
The was hosted by both Dominican singer Leslie Grace –which opened the show with a performance – and Argentine-Spanish model Iván de Pineda, and took place in the Dominican Republic at the Anfiteatro de Altos de Chavón.
Categories ranged from model of the year to fashion film of the year. Among the winners were Camila Falquez, who was presented with photographer of the year , Luar with brand of the year, and Willy Chavarría for designer of the year. "My work is for my family, my friends, it is for you, it is for us. Thanks to the jury, I am very grateful for this," said Chavarría in his acceptance speech.
Adding onto the list of winners were Dominican Hiandra Martinez, who took home the model of the year award. In an Instagram post, Martinez said: "Receiving this award is a dream come true. I feel very grateful to the organization for giving me the opportunity and believing in my work. Thank God, my family, Peter Cedeno, Sandro Guzman, Akafily because they make this possible every day. Thanks to Lineisy [which took home Estrella Local República Dominicana] for being an example to follow. This award is a testament to perseverance and consistency, Thank you."
Colombian reggaeton singer J Balvin was one of the grand stars of this event as he was awarded with fashion icon of the year. Balvin honored the big win with a halftime show performance singing some of his greatest hits such as "La Canciòn", "Reggaeton", and "Mi Gente".
Other well-known influential fashion figures in attendance were Tokischa – who presented an award– and Dascha Polanco.
