We know the 2013 Shelby GT500 is capable of 200 mph. We know that the 2013 Shelby GT500 thoroughly spanks the Chevy Camaro ZL1 on dyno tests. We know that with GT500 earned an SAE certified rating of 662-hp and 631 lb.-ft. of torque, and officially possesses the world's most powerful production V8.
Well, that was all last week. Now, we learn that an awesome Hennessey HPE700 Supercharged Boss 302 Mustang is kicking ass and taking names. Rated at 700-hp at 7,000 rpm, we present the new King of the hill.
Based on a Ford Mustang Boss 302, John Hennessey and his crew upgraded the stock engine with a TVS2300 Supercharger system, a supercharger pulley upgrade, an air to water intercooler, high flow air induction, a high flow throttle body upgrade and fuel injector upgrade, side exhaust bypass, and a Boost-A-Pump Fuel upgrade.
Other bits of hardware include a Hennessey strut tower brace, carbon fiber trim pieces, and of course, the obligatory Hennessey HPE700 badging as well as serial number plaques on the engine and dashboard.
Before I forget to take a breath, allow me to also mention the HPE 3 Year / 36,000 Mile Limited Warranty.
With so much horsepower at stake, it's easy to assume that the HPE700 is nothing more than a staight-line thrill ride. It's okay to be wrong. In principle, while the GT500 is tuned to produce brute forces of energy, the Boss 302 Mustang was designed to be a track-oriented sports car to answer the balanced BMW M3. What Hennessey has done isn't supposed to ruin the Boss' handling, but amplify everything that makes the Boss so great.
