Nothing says "Happy fourth of July" like the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat. On Tuesday morning, Chrysler finally announced the official power ratings of its most powerful production vehicle yet: 707 horsepower and 650 lb.-ft. of torque. Just as the supercharged 6.2 liter Hellcat engine wastes no time destroying a quarter mile straight, we waste no time and immediately announce the Hellcat's phenomenal power output on the first paragraph of our story.
Early reports have already hinted at the sheer shock and awe of the new Hellcat, but we doubt anyone was prepared to learn that the latest big muscle Challenger would be armed with more power than a nuclear warhead. The new Hellcat Challenger's performance figures are so mind-bogglingly massive that not do they eclipse the Lamborghini Aventador, Ferrari FF, 2015 Corvette Z06, and SRT's own Viper, but it has also rendered me useless at spelling. I'm certain "bogglingly" is not a word but I'm not going to do anything to change it.
“We have a situation where, you know -- we may have a situation -- where the flagship car is not the most powerful car in our arsenal,” said SRT CEO Ralph Gilles back in the April issue of Hot Rod Magazine. “How do we explain that to ourselves? So, we have an internal horsepower race as well as an external one.”
No explanation necessary. Buyers are happy to have all that horsepower do the talking. Last but not least, Automobile Magazine also reported that the Hellcat Challenger will be the most powerful car in production to offer a manual gearbox. Automobile Magazine also speculates the Hellcat Challenger price will start somewhere around $55,000. However, according to a source at the Manhattan Jeep Chrysler Dodge Ram dealership, buyers will have to wait until September for the Hellcat Challenger SRT to finally arrive in showrooms.
