A new advertisement for Spanish food giant Campofrio has gone viral since its release in December. The commercial, featuring Chus Lampreave, lauds what is unique about being Spanish in contrast to other European nations. The ad, called 'hazte extranjero' or 'make yourself a foreigner' shows famous Spaniards trying to adopt different nationalities. Ultimately, as Juana Manso, director of Marketing at Campofrio, explains, "it's a tribute to our way of enjoying life, a way of looking at the positive and leaving behind the negative."

In the commercial, Chus Lampreave walks through a market selling nationalities from countries all over the world. In her walk, she comes across well known Spanish entertainers, past and present including comedians, actors, reporters and chefs. "Having all these well-known faces at Christmas appeals to us. It brings us all a little closer together," says Manso. Indeed, the commercial features Chiquito de la Calzada, Leo Harlem, Rosario Flores, Manuel Carrasco, Gabino Diego, Javier Sardá and Martín Berasategui.

"It's our way of being and feeling that can't be given up," says Lampreave. "One can leave, but you can't become a foreigner." The commercial is indicative of mass emigration from Spain as a number of residents are fleeing the struggling economy in search of greater opportunities. The video has gone viral and has almost one million views on Youtube. The campaign has spread across social media pages - Campofrio got celebrities to Tweet #hazteextranjero and created numerous shorter clips with the message in mind.
