Two boys tragically lost their lives over the weekend in separate haunted hayride accidents in Tennessee and Minnesota, sparking concerns around safety regulations for Halloween-style attractions, according to a report.
The first incident took place on October 11 at the Haunted Hilltop event near Chattanooga, Tennessee, when Samuel Jessen, 12, was killed after trying to jump onto a moving hayride trailer. Witnesses say he fell under the wheels and was pronounced dead at the scene, CBS News reported.
The following night, at the Harvest of Horror Haunted Hayride in St. Augusta, Minnesota, Alexander Mick, 13, was run over by a wagon pulled by a tractor. Despite efforts to save him, he was also pronounced dead at the scene, the outlet reported.
"He was full of life, a junior black belt in taekwondo, played drums for the worship team, he was in band, sang in choir, in robotics and soccer and almost was an Eagle Scout," Teri Mick, Alexander's mother, told the outlet.
Both tragedies led to cancellations of subsequent hayride nights out of respect for the victims and their families.
Authorities have launched investigations into each accident and both attractions are cooperating with law enforcement, according to reports.
