The prosecutors at the Harvey Weinstein sexual assault trial gave the closing arguments on Friday, Feb. 14. The Friday in Harvey Weinstein’s sexual assault trial in New York. the disgraced movie mogul was charged for sexual abuse of two women for the 2006 and 2013 incidents.
After the testimonies of witnesses and victims, many disconcerting stories of lewd propositions and alleged rapes have been brought to the surface. With that, CNN News reported that in a closing argument, a prosecutor described Weinstein as “a predator who lured women with a hallmark pattern of predation.”
Assistant District Attorney Joan Illuzzi said that Weinstein took advantage of the power he had over the six victims who accused him of molestation. She said that the perpetrator saw the women as "disposable" so he never imagined that they will come forward for what he did to them.
"It's Harvey Weinstein everything, witnesses nothing," the assistant DA said. "They were never in his world, they're never gonna be in his world. They're never gonna be strong enough, bold enough or brave enough to tell. That's the ‘mark of a predator.’"
Illuzzi also revealed during the closing argument the prosecution suggested that Harvey Weinstein was probably “turned on” by the fear he sees in his victim’s eyes when he is about to attack. He has the power over them and he can give or refuse to grant them work projects and he turned this reality to his advantage.
“He was a master of his universe and the witnesses were merely ants he could step on without consequence,' the DA said. “He felt like he had a surefire insurance policy that the witnesses were standing in line to get into his universe.”
For his defense, Weinstein’s lawyers said that their client’s two accusers are opportunists who willingly had sex with him because they know he could help them with their careers. They argued that these women latched on the producer as he has the power to make them a star.
According to the Daily Mail, the 67-year-old producer pleaded not guilty to the sex abuse charges filed by a former production assistant Mimi Haleyi and Jessica Man, an aspiring actress, who said that she was raped in 2013.
