Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reportedly failed to issue a public congratulatory message as Queen Elizabeth marked 70 years on the British throne. She requested that Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, be known as the Queen Consort when Prince Charles is crowned the King.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex appear to remain silent despite the Queen's declaration of her wish in a historic announcement Saturday. Harry and Meghan along with their children, Archie and Lilibet, are currently residing in their $14 million mansion in California. After stepping back from royal duties, the couple relocated to the United States.
The Sussexes are known to have abandoned their social media handles as they give more attention to their new roles in the US as they are reportedly disillusioned by all the "hate" they receive online. All updates regarding their activities are regularly posted through the Archewell website instead. Meanwhile, Meghan's close friend Omid Scobie has also remained silent.
Prince Willian and Kate Middleton have also not commented publicly yet on the Queen's statement. But they retweeted the Royal Family's post, including the Queen's announcement. They also shared a news story on their joint Instagram account.
Harry is expected to return to the United Kingdom for Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations. The country will enjoy a four-day bank holiday from June 2 to June 5. Meanwhile, Meghan and their children joining Harry for the visit hasn't been confirmed. Harry was stripped of his personal security detail when he withdrew from the Royal Family. He claimed that he had offered to pay the Met Police for specially-trained officers, but the Prince was refused.
Meanwhile, in a letter the Queen poignantly signed "Your Servant" the queen wrote. "When, in the fullness of time, my son Charles becomes King, I know you will give him and his wife Camilla the same support that you have given me. And it is my sincere wish that, when that time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her own loyal service."
Prince Charles and Camilla said they were "touched and honored" by the Queen's gesture. Clarence House tweeted, "HRH The Prince of Wales: 'I am deeply touched and honoured by the decision of Commonwealth Heads of State and Government that I should succeed The Queen, in due course, as Head of the Commonwealth."
"Meanwhile, I will continue to support Her Majesty in every possible way, in the service of our unique family of nations.'"
British journalist Dan Wootton commented saying how he accepts the Queen's desire despite the uneasiness deep within.
