JD Vance Widely Mocked for Saying Haitians Come from 'Haitia'

Republican Vice Presidential nominee JD Vance made a widely ridiculed gaffe during a rally in Sparta, Michigan.

Toward the end of his address, during which he said, among other things, that Kamala Harris is bring America down a "path to slavery," Vance said he wanted to leave the audience with one final thought.

He then launched into how Harris's "open borders" will turn "every small town and big city in this country" into Springfield, Ohio, where unsubstantiated rumors about the Haitian community continue to spread.

"Over the last few years, 20,000 migrants, primarily from Haitia, have been dropped in Springfield, Ohio. And it's caused an incredible stress on nearly every local service," Vance said in a video shared by Fox 4 Dallas-Fort Worth.

Social media users and late night talk show hosts were quick to pick up on Vance erroneously stating Haitians come from Haitia instead of Haiti.

X user @drdave1999 wrote, "Yes, JD Vance actually said that Haitians come from 'Haitia.' And, mind you, he's one of the more educated Republicans in Ohitio."

Another user called the vice presidential hopeful "a moron" while sharing a clip from "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert." In it, Colbert joked, "That's right. Haitians come from Haitia much in the same way that lesbians come from Lesbia and Donald Trump comes from Dementia."

One X user reminded followers of when Donald Trump recently said he was going to deport Haitians to Venezuela.

X user @GeigerNews said the mix-up is a window into the Republican presidential ticket's "geopolitical acumen."

Another shared the clip as evidence of Vance "continuing his hateful rhetoric."

While many users continued making jokes at the senator's expense.
