A gym trainer has been reported dead after allegedly taking low-quality steroids and fake food supplements in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, India on Wednesday, Sept. 7.

The deceased man, identified as 36-year-old Sanjeev Dhama, a gym trainer by profession, reportedly suffered severe stomach aches and complained about the pain to his wife Aradhana on Aug. 13. Aradhana immediately rushed her husband to a nearby health facility, Santosh Hospital, for treatment. At the hospital, doctors informed Sanjeev that the reason behind his stomach ache was an infection in his pancreas and stomach, the Times Of India reported.

After the diagnosis, Sanjeev was transferred to another hospital, where his treatment began. However, as his health condition deteriorated, he was referred to AIIMS hospital in Delhi for advanced treatment. Despite this, however, Sanjeev, who was in critical condition for 27 days, succumbed to his health complications and died on Wednesday, Sept. 7.

According to the doctors who treated Sanjeev, the deadly infection may have been related to the "low-quality" steroids and food supplements the man took daily to stay healthy.

In a similar but unrelated incident, a 35-year-old woman reportedly died due to a heart attack while she was working out at the gym in Byappanahalli, Bengaluru, India on Saturday, March 26, Latin Times reported.
