A 33-year-old man was jailed for reportedly dropping a 20 kg. weight on the head of a bloke at a gym in Australia.
The suspect was identified as Shane William Ryan who initially claimed that the attack at the Next Level Gym over in Roseberry was an accident. Both were working out at the gym on Oct. 22, 2020, and it was not until video footage of the incident shed more light on what had happened at the Next Level Gym in the southeast of Darwin, Australia.
In the CCTV footage, the victim could be seen bleeding from the head in the same spot where he was later diagnosed with a fractured skull, News.au reported.
It could be seen how the 32-year-old walked away from the scene, feigned an ankle injury before calling an ambulance for help.
“You picked up a 20kg plate and walked towards the victim. The CCTV shows you lurching towards the victim and dropping the weight onto the victim’s head and chest area causing the victim to fall to the ground from the bench bleeding from his head,” the judge stated.
“You feigned an injury to your left ankle before you stood up and walked away before returning to the victim and then calling an ambulance,” the judge added.
The victim suffered a non-displaced left frontal bone fracture and a laceration above his left eyebrow.
Aside from that, the bloke suffered swelling to his face aside from headaches and chest pain from the horrific incident. He is now getting medical treatment but adds he is suffering from anxiety and has to take blood pressure medication.
Ryan was sentenced to 19 months in jail and will not be eligible for parole until Nov. 24, 2022, after serving at least 10 months in prison.
