In gun control news, a Louisiana restaurant has offered free fried chicken to its customers. That is, offered free food for those who openly support the Second Amendment.
Chicken Express, a restaurant in Bossier City, La., offered free combo meals to patrons who could present official concealed-carry permits for firearms. The store's owner, Randal Neel, said the original intent of the offer was not to increase business for Chicken Express. "It feels really good to stand up for what you believe in," Neel said, declaring that the move was geared more to show his support for gun owners and those fighting stricter gun control legislation in Washington and locally in Baton Rouge.
Recent data showed that 85 percent of Louisianans support expanded background checks, which are currently the subject of a contested bipartisan proposal inside the U.S. Capitol authored by Sens. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., and Pat Toomey, R-Pa.
Neel said it was the fried chicken restaurant's busiest Saturday yet. Chicken Express' actions are only the most recent in a string of similar initiatives by restaurants and businesses in Utah, Virginia and Minnesota.
No word yet on whether Colonel Harlan Sanders' establishment will join Neel in support of the right to bear arms.
