The husband of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz., astronaut Mark Kelly has been an outspoken proponent of fresh and expansive gun control measures since his wife, Giffords, was shot but survived during mass murder spree by Jared Lee Loughner at an Oro Valley, Ariz. supermarket in 2011 just outside of Tucson.

Giffords and Kelly afforded an interview to CNN's Dana Bash that will air Tuesday on Anderson Cooper's television commentary program. Bash noted that "the one thing she did not lose [following the shooting] was her love of guns" despite her and Kelly's views on the gun control debate.

Kelly incredulously noted that the Glock 9mm that he was using for target practice on camera, shooting flowerpots and milk jugs at Giffords' mother's home in the desert, was indeed the "same kind of gun Gabby was shot with" by Loughner. Mark Kelly said he gave the gun to Giffords as a gift "a number of years ago," citing their ownership of the 33-round gun as being in part because "she's from the West," hearkening back to the cowboy days of the 19th Century.

Bash inquired of Mark Kelly as to why he would still use firearms for sport "shooting a gun after his wife was shot though the head." Bash told Cooper that the couple cites their history of gun ownership as reason they would have "credibility" criticizing the NRA in their opposition to gun control laws.
