The Gumball 3000, an outlandish road rally event inspired by the legendary Cannonball Run of the 1970's, is one of those rare wonders that break conventional thinking. In fact, the Gumball shouldn't exist at all! If the Gumball was a strong cocktail, then the recipe would be 2 parts vaguely legal street racing in hyper-exotics, 1 part Playboy mansion pool party, and 1 part cosplay convention for the outrageously wealthy.
Essentially, the Gumball 3000 is the gathering of the wealthiest, most outrageous car enthusiasts participating for the ultimate weekend road trip. If billionaire playboy Bruce Wayne were a real person, there's no doubt that the young hero would leave his beloved Gotham for this epic vacation.
Bruce Wayne's reputation for wealth and lavish excess conveniently brings us to Gumball 3000 veterans Team Galag. In 2011, the Saudi team came into the scene with a Porsche 911 Turbo. For 2012, the team came in rocking with a wild purple on gray Lamborghini Aventador and another Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster.
The Lambo Aventador is nothing short of a Batmobile in real life, so how will Team Galag top themselves once again for 2013? They are actually going to bring out a one-off Tumbler replica as their "hero car" and pair it alongside another one-off supercar that they developed, known as the TG1.
The Tumber is being built by the mad mechanics of Parker Brothers Concepts, a garage best known for their incredible machine work for SyFy Channel's "Dream Machines" show.
Actual specs on the one-off Tumber are unknown but expect to learn more when the Tumbler is complete. So far, automotive blog SaudiShift claims that the Tumbler beast will weigh 2.5 tons that seats three and will be capable of a ludicrous top speed of up to 355 km/h, or 220 mph. Seriously. We can't even report SaudiShift's absurd claim with a straight face (even though an ambitious side of me is eager to see this happen). There is no confirmation on the engine, or engines, the Tumbler will be using.
This year, the 2013 Gumball 3000 rally will begin on May 18 in Copenhagen, Denmark, and extend all the way through Stockholm; Turku, Finland; Helsinki; St. Petersburg; Tallinn; Riga; Warsaw; and Vienna before arriving to the Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix weekend starting May 23.
