A Michigan man with a violent sexual fetish will return to court early next year after he allegedly slit his victim’s throat before stripping him naked and hanging him from his basement ceiling to eat his testicles on a grisly Christmas Eve murder in 2019.
The defendant, Mark Latunski reportedly confessed to the killing of 25-year-old hairstylist Kevin Bacon, who he met via Grindr, a dating app for predominantly gay, bisexual, and transgender men. Bacon would be reported missing the day after they met on Christmas Eve 2019, reported the New York Post.
According to Bacon's roommate Michelle Myers, the victim last got in touch with her at about 6 p.m. the night he went missing to turn down a game night with other pals to meet with Latunski for a quick hookup. However, he would fail to return home safely.
“I’m just in shock about the whole thing,” Myers told the media at the time. “It’s just hard to process right now.”
The Rolling Stone noted that the victim would habitually talk big about having casual sexual relations with many men he met via Grindr, including young men. Pals said it was Bacon's way of running away from his problems.
Days later, police found the victim hanging naked by his ankles from the ceiling in Latunski’s home in Bennington Township, Michigan, on Dec. 28. 2019.
According to court documents, the accused ultimately cut off a part of Bacon’s genitals and ate them. The paperwork further noted that Bacon knew Latunski had a violent sexual fetish.
Further investigation then unraveled that Latunski would sometimes skip taking medication for mental health issues in the days leading up to the gruesome murder of Bacon.
Latunksi has been in a Michigan jail for about two years as the pre-trial process progresses. He will front court for a hearing on Feb. 3. He was arraigned on Dec. 30, 2019, for murder, disinterment, and mutilation of a dead body, News.com.au reported.
“Evil does exist and it touched us,” Bacon’s dad, Karl, said in a January 2020 interview. “What was released shows that Kevin had a dark side. I’m going to remember him as everyone else remembers him, that he’s a good person who was passionate and cares for people.”
