Greece meet the Ivory Coast on Tuesday in their third and final Group C match and the Greeks will need all three points, in addition to help from group counterparts Colombia to keep their world cup dreams alive. The Ivorians will like their chances to qualify from this group, as they sit in second place and control their own destiny -- a victory against the Greeks and they're in, anything else and they leave the door open for either the Greeks or contenders Japan.
The Greeks come into this game without captain Kostas Katsouranis due to a red card he picked up in their 0-0 draw against Japan. That game represents the Greeks solitary point which will prove to be essential if they are to continue in this years tournament after losing 3-0 to Colombia in their opener. They will look for Giorgios Samaras and Panagiotis Kone to be their main creators and possible goal-scorers. However, the team has failed to produce too many chances in front of goal and are still scoreless, and as three points are necessary they will need to score at least one goal against the Ivorians if they wish to advance.
The Ivory Coast enter this match in second place in the group on three points -- all earned in their comeback 2-1 victory over Japan. But the team comes into this game on the heels of a difficult loss to first place Colombia. The Elephants will advance with a victory over the Greeks, but they hve looked like two different teams at times -- one good squad when Didier Drogba is on the field, and one mediocre side when he is on the bench. Brothers Kolo and Yaya Toure are both expected to start, even they their brother Ibrahim, 28, died last week. Coach Sabri Lamouchi will need an inspired performance from his squad if they are to breakthrough to the knockout rounds.
Expect the Greeks to come out firing against a shaky Ivrorian defense. An early goal can open up this match and ensure that both teams go out firing. The Greeks will need to win and a Colombia victory against Japan to have a shot of going through to the next round. One point might be enough for the Ivory Coast to advance, assuming Colombia can defeat Japan. But regardless of what happens in the other match in Group C, expect both teams in this one to go for all three points.
Prediction: 1-1 Draw. Ivory Coast advances after Colombia beats Japan.
