The 56th Annual Grammy Awards is the biggest night in music and it is set to be hosted by LL Cool J, live from the Staples Center in Downtown Los Angeles. The show will bring in the best talent in the world for a three-hour plus spectacle that is sure to include a lot of surprises and mixups. Grammy's is the place where performers unite to create an experience like no other, this year set to take the stage is a mash-up that includes Daft Punk, Pharrell Williams, Stevie Wonder and Nile Rodgers. Other performers to expect are Lorde, the 17-year-old "Royals" hitmaker, Metallica singing with Lang Lang, Gary Clark Jr. and a possible union of Jay-Z and his wife Beyoncé. Madonna has also been tapped to perform on the Grammy's stage after teasing fans on Instagram this week. Also scheduled to perform are Trombone Shorty, rapper Juicy J and Billie Joe Armstrong and Miranda Lambert in a tribute to Phil Everly.
The award show is highly competitive as it unites all music genres under one roof, one of the top awards of the night is in the Album of the Year Category. Sara Bareilles, Daft Punk, Kendrick Lamar, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and Taylor Swift all compete for the top prize with their respective albums, but only one will win. Another top category of the night is Record of the Year where the following are competing: "Get Lucky" by Daft Punk featuring Pharrell Williams and Nile Rodgers, "Radioactive" by Imagine Dragos, "Royals" by Lorde, "Locked Out Of Heaven" by Bruno Mars and "Blurred Lines" by Robin Thicke featuring T.I. and Pharrell. The Song of the Year will be disputed by "Just Give Me A Reason" (Pink), "Locked Out Of Heaven" (Bruno Mars), "Roar" (Katy Perry), "Royals" (Lorde) and "Same Love" (Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, featuring Mary Lambert). Our Latinos are also being represented in this event in different categories like Best Latin Pop Album. Frankie J, Ricardo Montaner, Draco Rosa, Aleks Syntek and Tommy Torres will be vying for the accolade.
In a special ceremony leading up to the Grammy's, Carole King was award the Person of the Year Award. The event set to be held this Friday (Jan. 24) will feature a star-studded cast paying tribute to the legendary vocalist. Lady Gaga, Gloria Estefan, Steven Tyler, Alicia Keys, Better Midler, James Taylor and more are set for the homage. Mexican duo Jesse & Joy will also be at the event performing one of King's pieces. "We are more than honored to be a part of this special night that commemorates the career of Carol King," Jesse and Joy said in a statement. "Our dad was Mexican and our mom is from Wisconsin and we thank her so much because a big part of our music influence was the music she played to us when we were kids and 'Tapestry' was played almost every day at home. So, for us being a part of this night is a career highlight in many ways."
The 2014 Grammy Awards will air on Sunday, Jan. 26 starting at 8 p.m. ET on CBS. A special live stream from the event has been set up through The Academy's official website, which starts at 12pm ET.
