Oprah Winfrey is set to receive the Cecil B. DeMille Award that honors her contributions to the entertainment world. "As a global media leader, philanthropist, producer and actress, [Winfrey] has created an unparalleled connection with people around the world, making her one of the most respected and admired figures today," HFPA president Meher Tatna said. "For generations, Oprah has celebrated strong female characters on and off screen and has been a role model for women and young girls for decades. Holding titles such as chairman, CEO and founder, Oprah is one of the most influential women of our time, and this honor is well deserved especially in this 75th anniversary year of the Golden Globe Awards."
Guillermo del Toro is leading the nominations pack this year with seven nods for his film "The Shape of Water." In the Best Director category he will be competing with Martin McDonagh ("Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri"), Christopher Nolan ("Dunkirk"), Ridley Scott ("All The Money in the World") and Steven Spielberg ("The Post"). In the top award for Best Motion Picture - Drama "The Shape Of Water" will compete with "Call Me By Your Name," "Dunkirk," "The Post" and "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri."
On the television spectrum for Best Television Series in the Drama genre the following are competing for the award: "The Crown," "Game of Thrones," "The Handmaid's Tale," "Stranger Things" and "This Is Us." On the comedy side the titles competing are: "Black-ish," "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel," "Master of None," "SMILF" and "Will & Grace."
