Gisele Bündchen, one of the most successful models in the world, began her career at 14. After being discovered at a mall, the Victoria’s Secret model ventured out to Sao Paulo, Brazil, where she was immediately signed to Elite Model Management and the rest is history.
However, during a recent interview with “Access Hollywood,” the 35-year-old Brazilian bombshell confessed she would not go into modeling if she were starting out now.
“If I had to start modeling today, there is no way I would ever do it,” she told reporter Scott Evans. “I’m like a crab, I like to stay in my little home. I like, you know, today everything is too much for me.”
During the interview, Bündchen recalled how awkward it was to be in her first nude photo shoot. She was only 17 years old.
“So, I’m in this position,” she said as she tried to relive the physical motion portrayed in the image. “And, I swear to God I was so stiff. I was so scared. I wasn’t even breathing because I was afraid that something was going to show more. I was like, ‘Oh my God, my parents are going to kill me!’”
Bündchen had to make one of the biggest decisions of her life, and her career, at 19 years old, when she had to say “yes” or “no” to a 25-million-dollar contract with Victoria’s Secret.
“Even though today it seems like a no-brainer, in 1999 it was,” she declared. “Because at that time there wasn’t really a crossover between fashion models and catalogue models. I remember having the conversation with my agent and she was, ‘You know, you have to make a decision here because you might never do a cover of a magazine again, and you might never be in fashion again.’”
Fortunately, she made the right decision and her career has only gone up since then.
The mother of two concluded the interview by revealing that if she were given a second chance in life, she would probably opt for being a professional volleyball player or a veterinarian.
