Contrary to what people might think, supermodel Gisele Bündchen did not have it easy from the start. The Brasilian beauty said she was often told she would never make it. “I remember some people telling me my nose was too big or my eyes were too small, that I could never be on a magazine cover,” she told People magazine.
Bündchen recalls the comments made her feel extremely insecure at 14, but she still didn’t give up. Even before that, the former Victoria’s Secret Angel recalls she never felt gorgeous growing up. “I already felt weird because I was taller and looked more mature then most girls my age,” she explained.
Still, after being discovered at a mall at 14, she ventured out to Sao Paolo to begin her modeling career with Elite modeling agency, and two years later, by 1996 she had her big break on the runways of that year’s New York Fashion Week.
In the interview, the model also recalls her parents being extremely supportive. Bündchen says that when she told her father about the criticism, he responded, “Next time, tell them, I have a big nose and that comes with a big personality.”
The model is much more than meets the eye; just like her former boyfriend Leonardo DiCaprio, she is a UN Goodwill Ambassador for the Environment; she’s also tried her hand at acting, and has a beautiful family with husband Tom Brady, her kids Benjamin, Vivian and stepson Jack, plus the canine members of the family, Lua, Scooby, and their latest addition, rescue puppy, Fluffy.
But Bündchen mentions that when her career exploded in 2000 while she was dating DiCaprio, it was really hard to live such an exposed life. “It brought a lot more attention to me, which is something I didn't feel very comfortable with.”
