A Georgia elementary school was rattled after a gunman opened fire Tuesday. The suspect, approximately 19 years old, was armed with an AK-47 and a number of other weapons. As of right now, police don't know what the motives were for the teenage boy to open fire at the Ronald E. McNair Discovery Learning Academy.
"He started to fire from inside the school at our officers," DeKalb County Police Chief Cedric Alexander told reporters. "The shooter barricaded himself in the school's front office with employees before eventually surrendering to police. He fired approximately six shots, and police returned fire."
No injuries have been reported and all children are safe. Concerned parents picked up their kids in a nearby shopping center. Students, teachers and staff remained outside the school's gym while police scoped the premises for other threats.
