
The second week of testimony in the George Zimmerman murder trial began today, Monday July 1, 2013. Zimmerman is accused of murdering 17-year-old Trayvon Martin. Last February the two had an encounter that left Martin dead from a gunshot wound to the chest.

The George Zimmerman trial has sparked national debate over racial profiling in the US. There are some, like the prosecution who say Zimmerman profiled Trayvon Martin because he was a young black man. Those on the side of the defense say Zimmerman was following Martin that night because Martin fit the description of suspects in a series of break-ins in Zimmerman's community.

The defense also claims that Zimmerman shot and killed Martin because the teen left him with no choice. Zimmerman claims that Martin turned on him violently and attacked Zimmerman. The defense says Martin began to smash Zimmerman's head against the sidewalk curb.

This morning news anchors and experts on CNN were debating whether or not it is a good idea for George Zimmerman to testify.
Those on the side of the prosecution say they should force Zimmerman to testify and expose the inconsistencies in his stories. Defense experts said he should remain off the stand.
