Mark O'Mara, the defense attorney who successfully defended George Zimmerman in his second-degree murder trial, has dropped his client following domestic abuse allegations from Zimmerman's wife Shellie. Zimmerman reportedly threatened his wife and her father with a gun, demanding she step closer and allegedly hitting her father in the nose. Shellie Zimmerman called 911 Monday afternoon following the incident and later refused to press charges, recanting parts of her story. The two are going through a divorce after Shellie Zimmerman said she would have to think about if she wanted to stay married to him when her husband did not stand at her side when she plead guilty to perjury last month. She lied about the couple's finances to bail him out of jail following the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.
"I am not representing George Zimmerman in his recent domestic altercation case or his impending divorce case," O'Mara told reporters at CNN. Though his estranged wife chose not to press charges, Zimmerman is still embroiled in other legal problems. Attorney Jim Beasley is currently in charge of his case against NBC that alleges the network took the 911 call out of context. Zimmerman is now suing for defamation, but will no longer be represented by O'Mara in any legal cases henceforth. The charges against him in the domestic abuse case, according to O'Mara, were dropped because he did not actually point the weapon at his wife, though he had it in a holster. "He never took the weapon out," he said. "He made sure the gun was not moving anywhere and didn't do anything because Mr. Dean was sort of coming at him. That can be seen in the video."
