George Clooney is once again back in the forefront with rumors claiming the “Catch-22” director eyeing the presidential office, causing some buzz to be made about him possibly ending up as the President of the United States in 2020. However, this notion has repeatedly been debunked by Gossip Cop.

March 2018: George Wants To Be President To Change Gun Laws

After a hefty donation to the “March For Our Lives” demonstration last year, Women’s Day claimed that George wanted to run for President in an effort to change gun laws. A supposed insider claimed that the actor wanted “to make a real difference in the world,” and his wife, Amal Clooney, was heavily supportive of it.

June 2018: Friends Convince George To Run For President

In June of last year, Hollywood Life claimed that several of George’s friends — Julia Roberts included — tried to convince him to run for president. This allegedly happened when George was awarded AFI’s Life Achievement Award, which, ironically, Julia did not attend due to a scheduling conflict.

April 2019: Amal Is To Divorce George And Is Not Supportive Of His Bid For Presidency

A more recent story in April this year claimed that George’s bid for the presidential run had been met with resistance by his wife. The article further contended that their marriage was “on the rocks” as the international rights lawyer was too busy “building herself up” after getting addicted to fame.

June 2019: Barack Obama Convinces George To Run In 2020

George and Amal have been very vocal about their distaste for US President Donald Trump. So it comes as no surprise that seeing former President Barack Obama hanging out with George and Amal would spark rumors about the actor running for presidency. According to a report by Women’s Day, the former president attempted to convince George to run for president in 2020.

The Truth

George has been very active in his efforts to make certain issues and concerns heard, even speaking out against Donald Trump several times — with one instance hearing George endorsing anyone who would “make this president a one-term president.” However, the actor has no interest in being the President of the United States. He even believes he’s actually not right for the role.

“I am not going to get into politics,” he said. “It doesn't seem like a very logical place for me to be able to apply what skills I have. I don't have to make compromise for the things that I stand for and the things I believe in like politicians do. So it is not something that interests me.”
