General Motors announced on Monday that it will recall an additional 8.2 million vehicles worldwide, mostly in the United States (U.S.), for various mechanical problems related to accidents which left three dead and eight wounded. The recall takes the number of vehicles recalled to a massive 30 million called back by the American manufacturer, which will cost $1.2 billion in the second quarter plus $1.3 billion in the first recall, making it $2.5 billion.

GM's recall will include 7.6 million vehicles in U.S. GM shares were suspended on the panel on Wall Street for a half an hour during this announcement. After resuming operation, the shares went down 1.17% to 36.19 USD at 7:15 PM GMT. This decision affects the group's four brands: Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick and GMC, and models produced between 1997 and 2014. The highest number of models affected are from Chevrolet Malibu with 7.61 million, cars produced between 1997 and 2005.

GM explained that the issues is the key simply moving unexpectedly when making contact. In addition the manufacturer recalled other vehicles (Buick Rainier, Chevrolet Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, Isuzu Ascender, Saab 9-7x) manufactured between 2005 and 2007, the Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT and GMC Envoy XL from 2006, due to a defect in the driver's door which can deactivate the locking mechanism. If any other issues come to our attention, we will act appropriately and without hesitation," she CEO Mary Barra in a statement.
