Looks like "Gears of War 4" will get a gore and explicit language filter, according to The Coalition studio head Rod Fergusson. In a recent interview with Game Informer (which you can watch below), Fergusson discusses how the development team goes about censoring its own content.
"Gore is important for obvious reasons, and swearing is too," said Fergusson. "...generally what we tend to do is take the hardest of the hard off because we didn't want to 'over-bleepify' our game... We tend to look at what's on radio and we tend to go a bit further than that."
Fergusson continued explaining what type of explicit language he removes and why he keeps other mature words.
"Basically, it's anything around the work f**k tends to get turned off. I tend to keep the s**ts, I tend to keep the b***h, tend to keep goddammits, that kind of stuff, just because it speaks to the characters," Fergusson said. "When you turn the mature language off, you're basically not going to hear the word f**k anymore."
Meanwhile, early access to the "Gears of War 4" beta will start this month on April 18 and run until April 24. Following these dates qualifying Xbox Live Gold members will be invited to join the beta until it ends on May 1.
The "Gears of War 4" story takes place 25 years after the events in "Gears of War 3." In it we will follow Marcus Fenix's son JD, as well as Kait Diaz and Delmont Walker as the trio attempt to survive a night in the woods. Thanks to a report early last week we know voice from "Dragon Ball Z" and "Bones" have joined the title.
The actors involved include Laura Bailey, who provided the voice of Kid Trunks in "Dragon Ball Z," Spartan Olympia Vale in "Halo 5: Guardians" and more. We'll also hear Eugene Byrd who had recurring roles on both "Bones" and "Arrow" and Liam McIntyre who had a run on CW's "The Flash" as the Weather Wizard.
The actors roles have also been revealed as Bailey who will portray Kait, Byrd who will voice Delmont and JD gets his voice from McIntyre.
