A second “Game of Thrones” prequel is reportedly in the works already at HBO. Sources revealed that the network is already very near to closing a deal for a pilot order for this prequel.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the prequel being ordered by HBO will be set three centuries before the events of the flagship series. It will be tackling the beginnings and the end of the House Targaryen. Another important detail is that the drama will be written by Ryan Condal as well as the “Game of Thrones” writer himself, George R.R. Martin. It will also be reportedly based on the book installment, “Fire & Blood.”
Even though all these details are being revealed, HBO is yet to comment or confirm.
The Targaryen prequel can be assumed or thought to be one of the four prequel series that HBO first announced are already in the works. However, THR reported that this is the case after all. Instead, it will be a new take on the world of “Game of Thrones” originally developed by Bryan Cogman.
Cogman already said earlier this year that what he already worked on would not be moving forward.
If this project pushes through, fans will naturally be excited. “Game of Thrones” has become a crucial ad groundbreaking franchise for HBO since it started. It ultimately ended its run with an EMMY record of 32 nominations.
It also ranked on top of HBO’s "Most-Watched Originals" list. No doubt, given the unique world presented in the series. Given all these achievements, it is not surprising that “Game of Thrones’ will be a centerpiece on WarnerMedia’s upcoming streaming service, the HBO Max.
There’s another “Game of Thrones” prequel series on the production stage as well. It includes the notable actress, Naomi Watts. While the Targaryen prequel is set 300 years before the events on the original series, this one is set thousands of years before these events. It will be giving focus on the early days of the Stark family, showing how and where the evil White Walkers and the Age of Heroes originated. Jane Goldman, who worked on “X-Men: First Class” and Martin will be the creators of this prequel.
