The NBA trade deadline may still be months away and there is no telling who will be shipped by that time. One name that is often mentioned is John Collins of the Atlanta Hawks.
The 25-year-old is reportedly on the radar of several NBA teams. That list includes the Brooklyn Nets, Indiana Pacers, Utah Jazz and the Washington Wizards per NBA correspondent Marc Stein.
As of this writing, there has been no indication that the Hawks are open to trading the 6-foot-9 cager. Looking at the situation of Collins and the Hawks, a trade could make sense.
Atlanta needs to do some tweaking right now if they want to get their NBA campaign back on track. They currently sit at the 9th spot of the Eastern Conference with an even 16-16 win-loss record, tied with the Miami Heat.
As for Collins, the former Wake Forest Demon Deacon could use a fresh start.
His numbers have taken a dip, perhaps the worst since he entered the NBA in 2017.
In 24 games, all of which he has started, Collins has averaged just 12 points, 7.4 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.3 blocks. These are notable lows if one looks at his career averages of 16.2 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.1 blocks in 317 games.
Apparently, this has something to do with the role he now holds with the Hawks. And from the looks of it, the change has been affecting him and hence the reason why his name has cropped in NBA trade rumors.
So far, the Hawks have not set an asking price and the assets they would prefer to get a John Collins trade done.
In the last offseason, Collins was almost shipped to the Sacramento Kings in exchange for Harrison Barnes. That deal never prospered so it will be interesting if the Kings would join the race for the services of the 19th overall pick of the 2017 NBA Draft.
