A former teacher in Texas was sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree sexual assault of a child and first-degree sexual performance by a child in Montgomery on Tuesday. Forty-year-old Leticia Lowery admitted to performing both acts in 2019.
Court records reveal that Leticia Lowery admitted to assaulting a teenage student and his girlfriend in a van. Authorities said she forced a 13-year-old to perform a sex act on a boy inside a van while she watched. She also sexually assaulted a 14-year old boy in her home in November 2019.
Montgomery County Assistant District Attorney Laura Bond said after the court proceedings that she approved the plea agreement because it prevented children involved in Lowery’s sexual assault from having to testify. In a statement, the Montgomery County District Attorney said, “Lowery has been a teacher and a private tutor with several places of employment over her years in education. She took advantage of her access to children to manipulate her victims and use them for her own sexual satisfaction.”
Authorities said Lowery’s acts were exposed after the mother of one of her victims approached officials. The mother told authorities of her suspicion that her son and Lowery were in an inappropriate relationship. After the police asked the mother to monitor her child’s cell phone, the mother found messages between her son and Lowery that were “sexual in nature.”
The mother confronted the boy to know the truth and the boy admitted his relationship with Lowery. He also revealed that they had a sexual intercourse at Lowery’s home on Nov. 1, 2019.
On top of her conviction in Montgomery County, Lowery also has a pending case in Harris County, where she has been charged with Online Solicitation of a Child after inviting a 15-year-old boy to have sex with her. Lowery, who pleaded not guilty in that case, is due for trial in January next year.
