There was a time when actor James Franco was one of the big names in the movie industry. But somehow, his stock has dipped and most are probably wondering why.
The 43-year-old actor is best known for his performance in films like “Spider-Man,” “127 hours” and “Rise of the Planet of the Apes.” He even got his share of doing soap operas when he appeared on “General Hospital.” But it appears there is more to Franco off-screen.
Turmoil has marred Franco’s career with most not even noticing. From the purported James Dean of his generation, his fall from grace was of his own doing. He has been embroiled in several controversies, a mix of sexually related incidents and some inexplicable outbursts that have ruined his status symbol. And all that was perhaps capped by the fact that frequent collaborator Seth Rogen no longer wanted to work with him.
Rogen recently spoke about his professional relationship with Franco in the Sunday Times. He revealed that he no longer plans to work with Franco for sexually inappropriate behavior.
“What I can say is that I despise abuse and harassment and I would never cover or conceal the actions of someone doing it, or knowingly put someone in a situation where they were around someone like that,” Rogen stated.
So what was Rogen referring to? If one digs deeper, Franco did make his share of weird choices, which have built up.
One of them stemmed from posing with a 17-year-old in 2014. He was starring in “Of Mice and Men” on Broadway and posed with the teenager. Franco asked the girl to tag him on Instagram at the time. It would, later on, be revealed that the actor messaged the 17-year-old and offered to rent a hotel room for them. This conversation was made public but the veteran actor said it was done in a gentlemanly manner.
Rogen made a pun of it with Franco seemingly unfazed, likely trying to handle it as bluntly as he could. But from there, Franco simply had several other incidents that involved actress Ally Sheedy and Violet Paley. There was something wrong with the mental well-being of the 43-year-old actor, particularly sexual misconduct.
Will Franco get back on his feet? Right now, it appears he needs all the help he can get as his acting career continues to spiral.
