In the movie Taken, actor Liam Neeson performed the famous line that described his particular set of skills. The line ended, "I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you." Of course, that's all Hollywood, but if there were any organization that could match a threat like that, it would likely be U.S.A's Central Intelligence Agency.
Yesterday, automotive blog Jalopnik shared an awesome vintage CIA training video that's designed to train its agents in the art of "vehicular surveillance." Do you belong to a group of helicopter parents that suffers trust issues every time your child leaves the house? You might want to start taking note.
Interestingly, although labelled as CIA material, the video was obviously filmed in the UK, suggesting that the techniques presented here are likely adopted by intelligence forces internationally.
While the quality of the video is a bit grainy, the training video teaches agents to great effect how to vanish in plain sight while maintaining "contact" with the target. Utilizing well synchronized teamwork between three vehicles, each armed with a 2-way radio and a detailed map of the area, the trick is all about positioning the team to intercept the route the target is travelling on without having to tail the target for an extended period of time. What's more, this training guide also demonstrates textbook mistakes that may occur during an operation and the methods one can use in order to prevent these mistakes from happening.
Unfortunately, if your fellow, like-minded, helicopter parents don't share the same level of commitment, then the CIA training might prove to be a little difficult to apply. That said, modern technology has brought forth GPS tracking devices and that should prove more than sufficient anyway.
