Floyd Mayweather Junior has consistently been one of the best fighters in the world since turning professional in 1996.

The 36-year-old champion stayed perfect over the weekend as he disposed of Robert Guerrero at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. All three scorecards from the match showed Mayweather's convincing victory, tallying the bout at 117-111 in favor of Mayweather.

The pound-for-pound top fighter in the world is now a perfect 44-0 with 26 of his victories coming by knockout.

One of the most physical fighters in the sport and someone consistently able to dominate his opponent, Mayweather did not leave the Saturday bout against Guerrero unscathed.

As ESPN's Dan Rafael reports, the welterweight champion suffered a sore right hand following his 44th-consecutive victory. Showing his injury to the media following the fight, Mayweather's hand looked significantly swollen and discolored.

With his next scheduled fight set for September 14th at the same MGM Grand arena, speculation as to whether or not the champ will be ready has begun to surface, but longtime Mayweather publicist Kelly Swanson reassured the public that Junior will be ready to go in 4 months' time.

"He went to the hospital Saturday night, and everything is fine," Swanson told ESPN. "He just experienced some soreness."

Echoing the sentiment of his publicist, Floyd Mayweather Jr. said he does still plan to fight in September, coming as a relief to many of the boxers' fans.

Following his dominant victory over Guerrero, Mayweather is seeking some much-needed rest before he begins to think about who he could potentially fight come September 14th.

"We don't know who we are going to fight right now," Mayweather told reporters from Business Day. "Let me go home and rest up first and talk it over."

Many boxing enthusiasts have long-suggested that a bout between Mayweather and Saul "Canelo" Alvarez would be a card they'd like to see. As David Mayo of MLive reports however, that match-up is unlikely to develop.

Looking forward to some more time off after his most recent victory, Mayweather knows speculation as to his next opponent will continue until he steps foot in the ring this September.

"They're going to keep making opponents," Mayweather said to MLive. "This is not going to stop. I'm not saying Canelo is not a good fighter but I'm happy with my victory tonight and all I'm going to do is take one day at a time."

This time off is certainly well-deserved for the pound-for-pound king.

Moving forward, Mayweather is expected to fight the best in the world as he looks to eventually end his career as an undefeated champion.
