Fernanda Castillo has been active on social media sharing important information about the earthquake that struck Mexico that left thousands without homes and where more than 300 people lost their lives. Among those that died were Castillo's cousin and her husband. The "El Señor de los Cielos" star had not addressed their deaths up until now, penning a heartfelt message that echoed the pain she was going through.
"My face is shattered, the weeping can't be contained in my chest, I think that silence will control me, pain screams," she wrote on Instagram. "I ask myself many things, things that have no answers in days like these. I don't know what to do with this unexpected pain, I'm scared. I look outside and there are hundreds like me, with their hearts broken into pieces, but going outside and giving to everyone, trying to rescue hope from under the rubble. Today I feel proud like never before for this country and its people. A Mexico that is unified, a Mexico full of brothers and sisters that forget about where you come from, who they are o where you were going to help from within the walls of a fallen city."
"I know that Florencia and Martín would also feel proud. Thank you to everyone that helped us look for them until the last moment, those who put in hours amidst the chaos to find them and those who sent words of encouragement. Thank you with all my heart to those that have not stopped working all of these days to rescue a son/daughter, a mother, a cousin... Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Almudena Suarez, Maluz Suarez, Mariana Hernandez, Jorge Guasque y Gerardo del Valle for their empathy, for helping us get my cousins things that gives us something to hold on to. My Foren, my girl. Cousin Martín Velez, I know that wherever you are, you are embracing each other, smiling and that is how I will always remember you. That is how you will be in the soul of all of us that loved you and that will never forget you."
Following the earthquake in México, Castillo posted a message on her social media accounts asking for the whereabouts of her family members. "If anyone has info of Florencia Lorandi Castillo or Martín Velez Tenorio that were in Edimburgo street, their families are looking for them", she plead. Castillo then took to Instagram to echo her plea writing: "Please, any information you may have, they were in the Edimburgo building and we can't contact them."
Hours later it was Fernanda's brother, Pablo, that confirmed they had been found dead. "It hurts my soul," he wrote in an Instagram post. "I will always have them in my heart. My siblings and partners. They left together and they will be forever together." In a follow up post, Pablo wrote: "They filled my life with light and I will never be able to fill that void they left. We can only live and follow their example. Always in my heart, Martin and Florencia."
