A man accused of raping his 17-year-old daughter and murdering his wife was awarded the death penalty by an Indian court on Thursday, May 6.
50-year-old Murugesan, a resident of Pudukkottai in Tamilnadu, has three wives and 11 children. He was accused of sexually assaulting his teen daughter born to his second wife in 2017 for around 2 years.
According to the police, the father had threatened her daughter of dire consequences if she told anyone about the abuse. However, after two years of repeated abuse, the girl finally narrated her ordeal to her mother, Bhanumati.
The woman then alerted the man’s first wife about the alleged abuse. The two women then confronted the suspect.
Furious by the confrontation, the man decided to murder his second wife as he saw her as a hindrance to his activities. He dropped a boulder on her head while she was grazing her cattle in the nearby forest.
The man then told the woman's family members that she had gone missing. He filed a missing person report following which police began an investigation.
Following a preliminary investigation, police located the woman’s bloodied body abandoned in the forest.
The family members were questioned, during which officers learned that Murugesan had been sexually assaulting the victim’s daughter. He confessed to the killing and was arrested under various sections, including the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
On Thursday, Judge Sathya sentenced the death penalty to Murugesan. The court also directed the government to pay a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the teen victim.
In a similar incident, a 21-year-old mentally impaired girl was gang-raped by three men in Cairo, Egypt. The victim was at her brother's house when the alleged incident happened.
The woman was playing with her nephews when three men approached her and forced her into an isolated building. The miscreants then took turns to sexually abuse the mentally retarded victim.
The victim who had been reported missing by her brother was located the next day by the police. Her body showed signs of violence. All three offenders were identified and apprehended.
